what kind of model is this? the kind you paint and put on a shelf, or the kind you can articulate and such?

Now I want one. Where does one get these? Are they super expensive? It seems like it would be a good thing to do this winter that isn't looking at a screen.

you have sparked my interest in this. Where did you get said model, and what grade is it? All I know about this, I have learned in the last 5 minutes of googling.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Are these things fun/difficult/time consuming to build? I'm looking for a good hobby to burn up boring winter days.

Is this your first time building a Gundam Model? if it is then dont go 1/144 RG go 1/144 HG easier to build cause those feet gave me some fight to build because no poly caps

Here you go . 1/100 Scale Master Grade RX-78. It's a really nice kit - all the Master Grade kits are good. I've got a GM-79 and a Zaku II. The kit is listed at ¥3,360, or about $34 USD. That plus shipping from Japan (about $20) makes it about $55 for this model, but it's well worth it if you're a fan.
